I’m a mother of three, home based and a textile artisan. Creativity, a love of art and music, are part of who I am. I’m a member of a local guild of fine artists and craftspeople focused on sacred art.
Sewing and embroidering, almost exclusively by hand, is what I do with a particular focus on church sewing. I seem to have found the smallest of niches by attending to the material (!) needs of the local church. I should perhaps warn you that I’m slow, things made by hand and with an intentional prayerfulness take time. Also, while not a big deal, I am still recovering from a long term illness and this slows me down a bit.
I draw on my Celtic background in making this applied art. I don’t mean the style per se but the ethos, things which are beautiful as well as functional. My style is simple but not (I hope) simplistic, I don’t do fussy! If you want ‘fussy’ linens, vestments and paraments then I’m not for you! If you want these things in a way which is authentic and bold, then maybe I am.
I learned to sew and embroider as a child, taught by very good teachers at the school I attended. We should all be able to sew at least a little bit, imagine not being able to sew back on a popped off button! St. Paul was a tent-maker, he could certainly sew. Mending fishing nets is actually, if you think about it, a kind of sewing…
Anyway, I seem to spend a fair amount of time sharing pictures of what I’m up to with a variety of folks. This website is an attempt to be a little more efficient in that sharing… long form posts here, the odd quick update and pictures on my Facebook page. Enjoy!
